Komodo - land of the dragon
July 28 - Aug 7, 2019

Experience - Pictures and videos from the area can give you a hint of what to expect, but nothing can compare to personally experiencing this place. Mantas, eagle rays, sharks, tuna, whales, seahorses, nudibranchs and the largest now living lizard - the Komodo dragon. It is impossible to describe Komodo in just words. Join Anders Salesjö onboard the Indo Siren in July 2019!

Learn more about UW photography and marine biology - You and 15 other persons will be get guidance so that you can better your photography skills, all the while learning about the fantastic marine life around Komodo. During this time you will be most comfortable onboard the liveaboard boat that offers great food and service. Extensions in Bali and other destinations in Indonesia are available.

Lodging - 40 meter S/Y Indo Siren was completed in the spring of 2011 and has room onboard for 16 guests. The cabins offer flexibility and can be used as twins or double bedded rooms. The dining area is very spacious offering a great setting for all your delicious meals.

Our ambassador Anders Salesjö - Fascinated by marine life from a young age, Anders has actually been crowned "Sweden's biggest fish nerd." Anders curiosity about our marine life has led him into photography as a way of spreading knowledge about this fantastic environment that we have. In his opinion, this is the best way to keep it safe. Through the years he has won both the Swedish and Nordic underwater photo championships and has represented Sweden at the world championships. About Komodo

An extremely rich biodiversity born of a land of contrasts: life-carrier currents and water temperature jolts generate a uniquely thriving underwater scene: iridescent shallow reefs, pinnacles, current- swept deep water sea mounts and walls patrolled by oceanic fish and inhabited by a vast array of critters. You can expect encounters with pelagics, such as manta rays, eagle rays, sharks, sunfish, tuna fish and whales. Macro attractions: different kinds of pygmy seahorses, ornate ghost pipefish, frogfish, nudibranchs, blue-ringed octopus, crinoids just to mention a few.

Komodo is a truly unique area located in the Nusa Tenggara province. The area offers a wide selection of incredible drift diving, pristine corals reefs with hard and soft corals, as well as fascinating little critters with the ability to camouflage themselves and disappear into the background.

Komodo has been classified a World Heritage Site and a UNESCO “Man and Biosphere Reserve”. Experience for yourself why this destination has been rated one of the world’s greatest diving areas.

Komodo is also where you can encounter the awe-inspiring Komodo dragon. There is a reason why Komodo is also called “The land of dragons”. The Komodo dragon can grow to 2-3 meters in length and weigh as much as a fully grown man. This is an encounter that will give you just as many butterflies as seeing a bull shark under the surface!

ITINERARY - Day by day

Day 1 - 3
You leave Scandinavia and fly to Denpasar, Bali, and arrive the following day. We recommend that you stay in Bali for two nights to allow for extra time should your baggage or yourself not arrive on the planned arrival day. Scuba Travel can help you book flights and hotel nights along with additional transfers (at additional cost).

Day 4
You check out of the hotel in Bali and fly to Bima, Komodo. You land on the same day, and get a group transfer directly to your liveaboard, the Indo Siren. You will embark and disembark in Bima.

Day 5 - 12
Diving days! These days will be spent at sea and you will visit various dive sites in Komodo. You will typically do 3 day dives followed by an evening/night dive.

Day 13
The last diving day onboard. You will do 1-2 dives in the morning, after which the rest of the day is spent relaxing on the boat. You will reach Bima in the evening or early the following morning.

Day 14 - 16
Time to check out from the boat and catch the group transfer back to the airport in Bima. You should land in Denpasar, Bali, that same day. As the domestic and international tickets are separate, we recommend that you spend another night in Bali to make sure you (or your baggage) do not miss your flight back home (not included in your trip price). After spending the night in Bali, you will fly back home and land in Scandinavia the following day.

Please note!
Please note that the itinerary is only a preliminary plan.  Activities can change, or may need to be exchanged, in the case of adverse weather conditions or other unexpected incidents. Accommodation can also change due to availability. We ask you to be flexible.
