Learn to dive abroad
Going on vacation and would like to learn to scuba dive? Great! It is a shame to miss the fantastic reef systems, incredible marine animals and plenty of exciting ship wrecks that lay beneath the waters edge. Fitting a dive course into a vacation is not always easy though, and that is why we have several options for you.
Scuba Travel can help you to arrange the entire holiday, or just the diving, including any eLearning or pool training done in your home country.
- Take a beginner course while on holiday. This means that you will do the theory, pool and open water training when you have arrived to your destination of choice.
- Take a referral course, which means that you will complete the theory and pool training before you leave on vacation. When you arrive to your destination, you then complete just the open water training.
- Try PADI's eLearning. This online system allows you to study at home, at your own pace. You can then choose to do the pool training with a local dive school and the open water at your destination, OR do the pool and open water training when you have arrived to your destination!
Beginner course in diving
Open Water Diver is a beginner course in PADI's educational system and is the course for those looking to explore our fantastic underwater environment. Experienced instructors will teach you the basics and guide you through the course, helping you to become an excellent diver. The course begins with dive theory in the classroom, followed by hands-on training in a protected area of the sea, or in a swimming pool. After completion of the theory test and pool training, you will have the pleasure of developing your skills further with four proper dives in the open sea.
Through a referral course, you will complete all theory and pool training with a local dive school, before heading off on vacation to, for instance, Egypt. Upon arriving at your destination, you will complete only the four required open sea dives in order to receive your certification. After you arrive home, your local dive school will be able to support you with further training, dive equipment or just to have a new group of friends to travel and dive with.
If you’re looking for a flexible way to fit a scuba certification into your busy schedule before you depart on your holiday, or if you just prefer web based learning, then PADI’s online scuba programs are the way to go. Whether you are a beginner, or you’re ready to advance your scuba skills training, PADI eLearning is a convenient way to learn. It allows you to be flexible with the hours you put in to learning the theory part of your course, and you can work at your own pace.
The eLearning program can be used in combination with pool sessions from your local dive shop and then completion of the course at the destination, or combined with all water skills training at the destination.
Upon completion of your course, you will receive a PADI Open Water Diver certificate. This certificate enables you to book diving, rental equipment or continue your dive education, anywhere in the world. Read more about the PADI Open Water Diver course here.
The minimum age to receive an Open Water certificate is 15 years. All divers must be able to swim 200 meters. 10 years of age is the minimum for children to receive a Junior Open Water certificate. Please consider that not all children are physically or mentally ready for such a challenge as scuba diving. A parent or guardian must accompany the child while learning to dive. We recommend that the parent or guardian is already a certified diver.
